Radiant skin starts from the inside out! What you eat on a daily basis can have a long-term effect on the health of your skin. Get your glow back by adding these foods and seasonings to your daily eating routine
1. Fats and Oils
Believe it or not, fats are good for you, and good for your skin! Healthy fats like olive oil, ghee, avocado, and nuts help to lubricate the joints and repair the lipid barrier in your skin, which tends to thin as you age. Here are some ideas for adding more of these healthy fats into your day:
- Mashing avocado on toast or adding it to your favorite smoothie recipe
- Stir frying veggies in olive oil/ghee
- Snacking on nuts like cashews, almonds, and walnuts
2. Spices
Adding spices to your food will keep your digestive fire (agni) burning strong and boost your immunity, which both help your skin stay glowing! Turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cumin, fennel, and mint are all great choices. These are just a few ways you can incorporate these spices into your food:
- Peel and slice ginger into thin coins, and boil in a pot of water to make a deliciously spicy tea! Add in lemon juice and/or mint for additional flavor
- Add turmeric and a pinch of black pepper to cooked rice, tofu scramble,soups/stews, or sprinkled in with steamed greens for a pop of flavor and color. Turmeric can also be simmered with milk/milk alternative and sweetened with honey to create a delicious golden elixir
- Cumin is fantastic in chili, soups, tacos, and roasted veggies
- Fresh fennel is a great addition to salads, pasta dishes, and roasted veggies. Dried fennel pairs well with lemon, garlic, and onion flavor
3. Fruit
Especially those high in vitamin C! Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant for your body and for your skin! If you want to follow Ayurvedic guidelines, do your best to eat fruits in-between meals, as they are more easily digested on their own. Try these vitamin-C packed fruits for glowing skin:
- oranges
- strawberries
- pineapple
- kiwi
- mango
- papaya
